“Fernando González, a rival in the 2008 Beijing final, was a very good player. I played the semifinals against Djokovic and Federer lost I think against Berdych.

What has been experienced in recent years that they reached the finals is difficult. It did not happen in the past and I don’t think it will happen in the future,” said Rafael Nadal. In the interview, the Spaniard also shared his experience playing at the Olympics.

He revealed that he enjoyed a lot playing there. “In the Games, I have enjoyed it to the fullest, it is an event completely different from everything,” added the World No.2. Rafa also disclosed why the Olympics used to bring a special feeling for him.

He believed that it was because there one was playing for his nation as well. “And the responsibility is that you are not only fighting for yourself, but also for your country,” concluded Rafael Nadal.

The new season will bring the exciting prospect of the Spaniard being the frontrunner for the ‘GOAT’ mantle, as he will have a chance to clinch his 24th Major title at the Australian Open and set a new record for the most number of Grand Slam titles in men’s tennis.

While there is still no clarity on when Federer is due back from a surgery-induced absence from tennis, Nadal can even look to extend his lead at Wimbledon and the other Slams that follow.

Though Federer has identified Wimbledon, Olympics and the US Open as his priority events going into the new season, it’s still unclear if he will regain full fitness before the lawns of the All-England Club are made ready for action.

Serena Williams on How Getting Married, Starting Family Helped Her Realize There’s ‘More to Life’

Published

on

While Serena Williams has reached the highest of heights in the world of tennis, the 23-time Grand Slam champion says she needed time to learn how to enjoy her wins.

“A lot of people talk about how hard work pays off and that’s true,” she tells PEOPLE. “Playing tennis all my life has just been work, work, work. But sometimes it’s good to take a brief step back and enjoy the moment.”

Williams — who stars in a new Super Bowl ad from Michelob ULTRA that explores how joy plays a role in achieving success — says she didn’t begin to slow down and enjoy her victories until she had a conversation with someone who suggested she not immediately focus on the next match.

“As crazy as that sounds, and as weird as that sounds, I just needed to learn how to do that,” she explains. “I needed to just really have a chance to enjoy celebration.”

The Michelob commercial also features appearances from NFL legend Peyton Manning, Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers and golfer Brooks Koepka, among others.

In it, Williams sings karaoke while spending time with some of her real-life friends — something she cherishes even more in the year since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I love hanging out with my friends more than anything. I think I love it more now since COVID has made it so hard to have an opportunity to even see your friends or to hang out with them,” the 39-year-old says. “That’s been super exciting for me, to just be with them.”

Williams also says the happiness she’s found in her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their 3-year-old daughter, Olympia, has had a profound effect on her.

“It gives me a lot of reason beyond what I do, and so, it’s really important,” she says. “I’ve been so focused on my career my whole life, but when I had a family and got married, I realized that there’s so much more to life. And that was great.”

But, as Williams — who is overseas as she prepares to participate in the Australian Open in February — knows well, life doesn’t always go as planned. Whether it’s injuries or losses, she has learned to refocus when potential milestones turn into setbacks.

“Not everything’s going to be perfect, not everything’s going to be great,” she says. “You can’t go anywhere and expect, ‘Oh, I’m going to be perfect in everything. I’m going to win everything. I’m going to do everything.’ ”

“It’s not about how many times you fall. It’s about how many times you get up. That is most important. And it’s really good to just keep your mindset that way,” Williams adds. “And that’s what I’ve always said, really, a champion isn’t defined on how many wins they have, but how they recover when they fall.”

We sleep with one another in Nollywood, the profession is blessed – Jide Kosoko reveals

Published

on

Prominent actor, Prince Jide Kosoko has been a role interpreter for more than 6 decades. He has not only been in Yoruba films but also English-speaking ones with the presence of a colossus. He is so talented that he is considered by colleagues to be a chameleon when it comes to assuming characters to translate his roles.
In a recent interview with Vanguard, the actor revealed some of the benefits and bad sides of being in the spotlight.

Reacting to the claims that actors are philanderers, he said, “That is far from the truth. In fact, we are one of the professions whose members are very disciplined. People tend to make noise out of everything we do as public figures. That is not to say we do not date or sleep with one another. The profession is a blessed one and people should please see the good side of our profession too. We educate, entertain, admonish, enlighten the world through our artistic works.”

On fame, he said, “One film doesn’t bring an actor to the limelight rather continuity does. When people see a particular face in good productions, they will note the face and as time goes on, they will reckon with the face. And that is how the fame comes. That is why I detest some of my colleagues who believe they can turn one actor to a celebrity overnight. A continuous process of quality film productions brought me to limelight.”

Jide Kosoko also spoke on his life as a polygamist “I never envisaged being a polygamist though I am a product of one. My parents didn’t support it either. My first wife was a business woman. I craved for somebody who was in the same field with me. In those days, the best advice you can get is from your better half and that was how the second woman came to be. Along the line, I lost the two to child births within 11 months interval. I had seven children at that time, so I didn’t plan remarrying or having more children again. But after much persuasion from my doctor and relatives, I decided to have a woman with the agreement of not having more children but a complete African woman will not agree to that. One thing led to the other and I got two women again. So being a polygamist is not intentional but God’s design which I do not have a right over.”
