Rafael Nadal is regarded by many as one of the greatest fighters in not just tennis, but in the world of sports. If there was one thing to single out that sets him apart from almost every other competitor, its his relentless ability to excel even when not at his full strength. He has had numerous injuries throughout his career and what he lacked in physical strength in those times, Nadal made up in mental strength.

That was certainly the story of his 2016 Olympic Games campaign, where he came in struggling with injury. Rafael Nadal defied all odds again to win the gold medal in the men’s doubles with Marc Lopez. Nadal’s good friend Lopez threw light on the Spanish superstar’s condition leading up to the event, lauding Nadal’s ability to fight.

“He was coming very tightly. If I remember correctly, he had had a wrist injury and had to give up the mixed,” Lopez said in an interview. “He is a fighter, he gave himself up, left his skin and was about to win a singles medal, he was fourth, and we won the gold medal in doubles,” Lopez added.

Nadal went into the Olympics in August 2016, not having played a single event since the French Open in May. Nadal had retired from Roland Garros with a wrist injury before the third round. He missed Wimbledon as well and had damaged the tendons in his left wrist.

Set aside the doubles, not many expected Nadal to play well in the singles as well at the Rio Games. He almost did the double, but fell just short to Kei Nishikori in the singles bronze medal playoff match.

Lopez and Nadal are very good friends off the court. Lopez said that his countryman Nadal is an example to follow on and off the court. “Living the Olympic Games and as a couple with Rafa, one of my best friends, and an example as a person and a tennis player, I had everything to enjoy,” Lopez said. “Being best friends and achieving something historic is very nice and we did it in Rio,” the former world number three in doubles added.

Another option open to Rousey is her career as a gamer. The former Raw Women’s Champion has become an avid gamer during her hiatus and spent a lot of time on Twitch before WWE clamped down its ban on Superstars.

Rousey can also explore her gaming career
Rousey now live streams gameplay on WWE’s own streaming service but will surely move back to Twitch if her contract expires. She could pursue a career as a professional gamer then, which will surely suit her fancy.

Rafael Nadal has not revealed if he will seek advice from Tiger Woods on his back injury.

Rafael Nadal has refused to confirm if he has spoken to Tiger Woods regarding his back injury. Nadal is still suffering with the injury which forced him to withdraw from the ATP Cup matches against Alex de Minaur and Stefanos Tsitsipas last week. The Spaniard has made it through to the third round of the Australian Open though after beating Michael Mmoh in straight sets on Thursday.

After the win over Mmoh, Nadal was asked if he would be talking to Woods for advice on the issue.

But the 34-year-old was not giving anything away in his press conference.

“If I am talking to him, it’s something between him and me, and that’s it,” Nadal said.

“Sorry for that. I can’t say private conversations here.”

Nadal gave a worrying update on his condition, saying it is “not under control”.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion says he will continue to search for solutions to aid the issue.

“No, not under control, honestly,” he added. “No, I am going to keep doing the things that I can.

Nadal will face Brit Cameron Norrie in the third round on Saturday. Norrie overcame Roman Safiullin in four sets in the second round.

The South Africa-born star says he is looking forward to the challenge.

“Sweet. For someone like me, I don’t think about the draw but I saw yesterday he was next to me,” Norrie said when told he would face Nadal.

“I’ve never played him before so it will be a great match, a great experience. I can’t wait to show him what I’ve got.”
