World No 4 Dustin Johnson withdrew from the 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota, things never seemed to warm up for Dustin Johnson, who withdrew because of a back injury after shooting a 7-over 78 on Thursday (July 23)
Johnson, the highest-ranked player in this week’s field, picked up his 21st PGA Tour victory last month.

According to him “Yeah, it’s just my iron play, I feel like I’m driving it well, but the iron play, first six or seven holes hit it close and then the rest of the day kind of struggled a little bit with iron play. Kind of the same last week. I just struggled with my iron play, and [that] makes it difficult.”

Johnson followed a bogey at the par-four 16th with a double-bogey at the par-3 17th where his tee shot found the water. He made quadruple-bogey at the par-five 18th after hitting three consecutive balls into the water. Johnson had previously committed to play in next week’s World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

Why, you ask? In Woods’ Tuesday press conference he was asked if he’d thought of retirement due to his recent poor play. Here was his response:

“Well, retirement? I don’t have any AARP card yet, so I’m a ways from that.”

It was a pretty funny response that drew laughs from the assembled media. But it got the 50-and-over membership group’s attention, bringing about this jab at the 39-year-old Woods after he shot 76.

Ouch. And totally random considering AARP’s previous tweet was “4 reasons not to over-invest in municipal bonds.”
