It has been only two weeks since the Masters Tournament, in which Tiger Woods made a comeback after surviving a car crash in 2021. And the golf fans were curious to know whether he would attend the next major, PGA Championship. Finally, the golf world got the answer to it, and they are nothing but happy about it!
The PGA Championship released the preliminary field list on its official website on the 25th of April, and the 2019 Masters champion is present on it.
Interestingly, Phil Mickelson is also a part of the Southern Hills field list. The 2022 PGA Championship would be the first time the golfer would be playing in an event. He had been on a hiatus since his controversial remarks about the Saudi-backed Golf League.
Notably, Mickelson is the defending champion of the PGA Championship. He had won the event with a 2-shot lead against Louis Oosthuizen and Brooks Koepka.
The tournament begins on the 16th of May at the Southern Hills. Therefore, the authority will release the final field list on the 9th of the same month. Although his decision could change by then, Woods being part of the preliminary field list is delightful news for the golf world.
After surviving a massive car accident in February 2021, Woods played at the 2022 Masters as his first official tournament. Despite still having the injuries, the golfer played all rounds. Furthermore, he secured the 47th position on the leaderboard with an overall score of 13-over par.
It was the five-time Masters champion’s worst finish in the history of the event as a pro. However, it is still an achievement, considering he had survived a near-to-death experience just a year before.
The 15-time major winner has won 4 times in the PGA Championship, which once was at the Southern Hills. Since he has already won on the course before, fans believe Woods has a chance of winning it. He had won the event at the Southern Hills in 2007.
Since Mickelson is also playing at the event, the golf world is twice excited to watch them together at the upcoming PGA Championship.
