Roger Federer wife: How ‘everyone’ advised Qatar Open star against relationship with Mirka

ROGER FEDERER was advised by “everyone” to avoid having a relationship with wife Mirka Federer, according to the former head of the Swiss tennis federation, as the tennis legend successfully won his comeback match against Dan Evans in the Qatar Open this week.

Roger Federer admitted that he was “incredibly happy” after winning his first match back from injury in the Qatar Open. The former world No 1 is usually accompanied by his wife, Mirka Federer, for all of his tournaments. But it’s now been revealed that the iconic relationship almost never happened.

Roger and Mirka first met back in the year 2000, at the Sydney Olympics.

At the time, they were both competing on behalf of Switzerland.

After the pair immediately hit it off, Roger asked his team-mates whether they thought he should pursue a relationship with Mirka.

The former head of the Swiss tennis federation, Sven Groeneveld, revealed that everyone actually advised him against the move.

Roger would thankfully choose to ignore their advice, and he would go on to marry Mirka nine years later.

“He asked everyone if he should go with her,” Groeneveld told Kasi Live on Instagram.

“Everyone advised him against.

“That Federer did it, was the best decision of his life.”
