Tennis Update – Novak Djokovic taunted by rival as he claims Serb is easier to play than Nadal or Federer

Novak Djokovic is easier to play against than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, according to Stan Wawrinka. Swiss star Wawrinka, 36, has had to face the ‘Big Three’ throughout the majority of his professional career. And he has opened up on what it is like going up against them.

Wawrinka is on his way back to full fitness following a foot injury which has kept him out since last March.

He has won three Grand Slam singles titles, a number which could have been significantly higher if it wasn’t for the legendary trio ahead of him.

Nadal last week won his 21st Grand Slam, to move ahead of Djokovic and Federer’s tally of 20.

And he has claimed Djokovic’s style of play is what gives him the better chance of pulling off victory.

“Novak was always the one of the ‘Big Three’ I liked playing against the most,” Wawrinka told Eurosport.

“His play suits me the most even though he has beaten me more times than I can count.”

Two of Wawrinka’s Grand Slam final wins have been over Djokovic, the latest being at the US Open in 2016.

He has beaten the world No 1 on the last two occasions he has faced him and the last three at major tournaments.

Wawrinka says Djokovic is fearful of facing him on the big stage.
“I know he fears me, mostly in Grand Slams!” he added.

“We played again at the US Open and even though he was a little injured, he was still playing at his highest level.

Federer and Nadal fired warning by Serbian president over Djokovic
“I felt that he was getting tense when we started, he often does, because he knows what I am capable of.

“That’s why we have had several epic matches.”

Djokovic missed the recent Australian Open after being deported from the country.

Spanish coach Carlos Moya reckons Djokovic will need to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or risk missing further major tournaments.
