Anthony Joshua’s life outside ring – living with mum, mystery love life and rarely-seen son

Anthony Joshua has had a meteoric rise from Watford council estate to £100m boxer.

Having only started boxing at the age of 18, Joshua earned a place on the GB Boxing team within three years and won heavyweight gold at the London 2012 Olympics.

Since then the belts haven’t stopped coming, but the boxer has remained humble despite all his immense success and vast wealth.

The heavyweight champion became Britain’s first official £100m boxer this week and could double that if he takes on arch-rival Tyson Fury later in the year.

Rather than splash out his fortune on himself, Joshua prefers to spend money on his loved ones.

He has shelled out for lavish homes, all expenses paid luxury trips and the best wheels money can buy for those who have helped him get to the top.

Son, 41, dies of coronavirus three weeks after visiting Covid-stricken father’s deathbed

When his parents divorced, Watford-born Joshua returned to England with his mother Yeta after a year in Jamaica.

The boxer’s inspiring mum is a huge inspiration to him and they share an incredibly close bond.

But she has only ever been to a couple of his fights because she finds it difficult watching her son being punched repeatedly in the ring.

In 2013, he bought an ex-council home for his mother for £175,000 in North London.

Despite amassing a mass fortune through boxing, Joshua continued to live with his mum in her humble two-bed house in Golders Green.

The boxer rented a £20,000 a week mansion to prepare for his big fight with Wladimir Klitschko, but reportedly moved back in with his mum after the match in 2017.

Joshua then moved into his own pad just minutes down the road, but mother and son have been living together in lockdown.

He even invited his niece and cousin to move in so they could all be together in these strange times.

“We are all aware there is a pandemic happening across the world but fortunately none of my family have had any tragic losses or massive effects from the virus,” said Joshua.

“We are trying to take advantage of spending time together.”

As well as his boxing career, Joshua spends his time being a hands-on dad to four-year-old son Joseph ‘JJ’ Joshua.

After he split from JJ’s mum, ex-girlfriend Nicole Osbourne, he made sure they were both well looked after and bought her a £500,000 penthouse in North London.

Despite being one of the most famous men on the planet, he is simply ‘dad’ to his young son.

“At home he doesn’t really think of me as a famous boxer or anything like that. I’m not a superstar and he doesn’t think so either. He knows I fight but that’s all,” he told The Sun.

“I always keep that stuff away from home. I’m not like that at home – and I’m not even like that when I go out, really.”

It may come somewhat as a surprise that Joshua does not want JJ to follow in his footsteps.

“No it’s too hard. It’s a dangerous sport. I want my son to be the best man that he can be, but I don’t want him to be compared to me,” the boxer said.

“You’re not going to be a boxing star without going through heaps of pain.

“Life is not a highlight reel. A career is not a highlight reel. People see the glamour, the winning.

“Nobody’s interested in the knocks and bruises, the bad eye, the struggle. My son has the bloodline for it, there’s no doubt about that.”

Although he admitted he has been facing the same struggles as millions of other parents across the UK when it comes to home schooling.

“I started off as super-dad and then that slowly went out the window and to be honest he’s watching way too much TV now,” he explained.

“The only thing he wants to do is watch Paw Patrol and Ryan’s World – there’s no way you’d get him watching Joe Wicks.”

He treats members of his entourage to luxury holidays on private jets and new sports cars.

Freddie Cunningham, his close friend and marketing manager, has explained that the boxer doesn’t live as luxurious a life as he could.

“From the outside, it probably looks like he does. He’s seen in private jets, wearing expensive watches, and driving around in nice cars,” he told Business Insider.

“But the jets are all sponsored. We’ve never paid for a private jet, or a helicopter, in our life. He gets a signature car from Land Rover.

“He’s not spending that money. He’s accumulating money. He’s living a lifestyle that probably everyone wants him to live, or see him live, but he’s doing it in a smart way. Tactful.”

Being a superstar boxer does have some downsides, as Joshua struggles to find time to meet the love of his life.
He has previously been linked with a string of celebrities, including models Cara Delevingne and Bella Hadid, and singer Rita Ora.

The boxer doesn’t currently have a girlfriend and it doesn’t look like he will anytime soon.

With much of his time taken up by training hard to defend his titles, there is not a lot of space in his diary for finding love.

“I think you can date and still be a successful sportsman but it’s hard to find a balance and I would have to compromise — which I’ve not felt able to do,” he told The Sun.

“My dad never gave me advice about much. But in terms of relationships what I have learnt and what I tell my son is, it would be nice to find a high school sweetheart and to grow together because as you get older you get set in your ways.”

Joshua doesn’t have time to find love at the moment
Joshua doesn’t want a romance to get in the way of his incredible career, so is putting love on the back burner for now.

He explained: “For me to have a relationship now means I would have to compromise and change my ways and I don’t know how easy that would be for me to do.

“So I do date but I don’t get to the stage where I actually put anyone into that position.”

Jennifer Aniston reunites with ex-husband Justin Theroux for special reason

Jennifer Aniston’s fans have been left “screaming” with joy after the actress was pictured with ex-husband Justin Theroux during a table read of 80s sitcom, Facts Of Life.

The friendly exes were snapped by Scandal star Kerry Washington, leaving fans seriously excited about the project. Jennifer, 52, looked gorgeous in a black lace-up top as she posed for a selfie with Kerry. Meanwhile, screenwriter and producer Justin, 50, struck a pose alongside Jennifer’s good friend and her The Switch co-star, Jason Bateman.

Alongside a series of behind-the-scenes photos shared on Instagram, Kerry wrote: “LIVE from the cast & producer dinner on Saturday night! Don’t miss this cast recreating @thenormanlear’s classic sitcoms Facts Of Life & Diffrent Strokes! Tonight! #LiveInFrontOfAStudioAudience.”

Jennifer’s fans were loving the candid images, with one penning: “Made my day” and another writing: “I’m screaming”.

A third declared: “JASON JUSTIN AND JEN MY HEART IS GONNA EXPLODE” while another simply wrote: “Jen and Justin” alongside a number of love hearts.

The Friends favourite is starring as Blair Warner in the Facts Of Life remake while Justin is taking on producing duties.

Justin and Jennifer, who fell for each other on the set comedy Wanderlust in 2011, tied the knot in 2015. The pair have remained close since announcing their split in early 2018.

They said at the time: “In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation.

Jennifer and Justin split in late 2017 after two years of marriage

“This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”

The Morning Show star has made no secret of the fact she’s still close with her ex, and in August she publicly wished her former husband a happy birthday, posting some sweet pictures of him to ring in the occasion.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY JT,” she wrote, adding: “Truly one of a kind, LOVE YOU!”

Prince Harry’s New Legal Battle Suggests How Eager He Is For the Queen to Meet His Daughter Lilibet

Although Prince Harry has made solo trips across the pond to visit with members of the royal family and join them for special events, the Duke of Sussex’s wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children have yet to return to the U.K. But now, it seems, Harry is eager for his family on both sides of the Atlantic to reconnect. After a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex revealed the lengths to which Harry’s gone to try and secure his family a private security detail for future travels, a new report seems to suggest the Duke of Sussex really wants his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to meet his 7-month old daughter, Lilibet.

“The fact he has gone down this legal route to try and secure protection suggests to me that he is desperate and there is a real reason for him to come to the UK,” Ken Wharfe, Princess Diana’s former guard, shared during a panel discussion for the Daily Mail. “He has two children that the Queen hasn’t effectively seen yet,” Wharfe observed. Remember: Meghan and Harry’s son, 2-year-old Archie, was born in the U.K. and we have seen photos when Queen Elizabeth first met the newborn. But since their January 2020 move from the U.K. to Canada and then America, the Queen has not seen Archie and hasn’t even met her namesake, Lilibet, in person.
“The very fact he has made this noise with the British Government to secure protection suggests to me that he is going to make a real effort to come back here,” Wharfe continued. “I think we will see him return this year, for the Platinum Jubilee.” While the queen’s official celebration for her Platinum Jubilee will be this February, there will also be days-long festivities this coming June, to which Meghan and Harry might have an invite.
The news of Harry’s ongoing battle to try and retain some security for his family came out last week, and now it’s a lot more clear why that element is so essential to have during the Duke of Sussex’s potential next visit with his family. We can only imagine that Harry is going to such lengths because time is of the essence and reuniting members of his family is important to him. Like Wharfe, we can only hope that arrangements where everyone feels safe can be made so that Harry and his family can have a proper reunion.
The fraught relationship between the Cambridges and the Sussexes has been heavily scrutinized for the past few years. But we’ve never had quite a clearer look at the relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Prince William and Kate Middleton, until now. Longtime royal writer Christopher Andersen takes fans into the intimate conversations and exchanges between these two powerful couples in Brothers & Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan, illustrating what was lost, gained, and what might be found as the next generation of the royal family embraces the future.
