“Maria Sharapova Was Never Very Open”- Svetlana Kuznetsova

The player with an impressive grit Maria Sharapova hung her tennis racquets on Wednesday and bid goodbye to the sport. All of us know about Sharapova’s ‘aggressive-composure’ the professional courts. And at times with tennis treating her hard on the professional surfaces, she has never really lost her cool, and broke or destroyed a racquet.

However, she recently revealed that she has broken some racquets during practice sessions. In addition to that, her compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova disclosed about Sharapova’s unseen side. She stated that Maria was always a bit reserved on the WTA Tour.

“Thinking about Maria, she was never very open and somebody took it as being arrogant or high-level like kind of lift your nose up. I never thought so of her because I think it’s just her way to defend herself. Having her space because everybody wanted something of her,” she said.

“I think she’s a great champion and she did it her way. She played her way, she wins whatever she won and she’s great athlete, a great champion.”

Kuznetsova also shared one of their memories from the junior circuit. “I remember one moment, I don’t know, it’s always been in my memory, I was playing — I’m not sure if I play in juniors already or WTA event in Miami — and her dad and she was walking and I say, Okay, let me drive you and I drove them somewhere,” she added.

“And she was little kid and I think I was already playing pro, and she now is like stopped playing and I’m still playing. I feel very old right now.

Kuznetsova and Sharapova have played each other 13 times in their careers and Maria has won eight of their battles. In 2011, Kuznetsova’s quarterfinal run at the Italian Open aided her to replace Sharapova from the WTA’s apex amongst the Russian players.

Nadal cannot be satisfied with his results in 2021
“I’ve been better, but I’m fine. A little sore from the foot. It is a time that is a bit complicated on a personal and professional level, but, honestly, with the illusion of improving and facing a process that is going to be difficult and painful at some point but that I have to go through to put myself back in a position to fight for what I want.

I am determined to do it” – Rafael Nadal said. “The script was playing at Wimbledon, the Olympics or the US Open. In the script was not being lame today (laughs). He has been lame for a few days. But the scripts are not to be followed to the letter.

You have to adapt and accept things as they come. I have had fantastic things, bigger things than I would have ever dreamed of, and also more complicated moments in the form of injuries, but within what is possible I have always had a way to get ahead.

Over the years, one must be realistic and things are more complicated because the clock is ticking, but I am positive and I appreciate how lucky I am to be able to experience this kind of thing” – the Spaniard added.

Maria Sharapova: “That’s why I never took US citizenship”

Former world number one and five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova was the protagonist on and off the court from 2001 until early 2020. Over the course of her long amazing career she had Russian citizenship, her country of birth.

However, the doubt arises given that Sharapova has lived in the United States since 1994, that is, since her childhood. Many fans, as well as insiders, have always asked themselves the question of what the citizenship of Maria Sharapova is and if she really also possesses Russian citizenship.

Maria Sharapova was born on April 19th 1987 in Nyagan in Russia and she started playing tennis by taking a racket for the first time at the tender age of only 4 years and then starting to receive regular training through the technical expert Yuri Yudkin.
When she was only 6 years-old she then went to a tennis school in Russia, but she was then suggested to move to the United States to train with the well known and famous coach Nick Bollettieri. This is the main reason why Maria Sharapova moved to Florida in 1994 and she has lived there as a resident ever since.

Maria Sharapova: “That’s why I never took US citizenship”
Despite this, she never took citizenship and recently she tried to answer this question by explaining the reasons for this decision. Here are her words about the topic: “Surely I would have taken American citizenship if I really wanted it, but in reality I have never asked myself this problem, talking to my family and my team.

In the end it is a matter of the family environment and the rich culture one has. I am a life experience that I think back to and in general I was shaped according to the Russian culture when I was little, I am not referring only to the nation but also to the mentality and tenacity, I acquired the attitude of never giving up and for this reason I have decided to stay alone with Russian citizenship.”

Maria is the only Russian tennis player and seventh in history to have completed the Career Slam. In addition to being a great champion, Sharapova has also made significant gains: she has been associated with several major brands throughout her career and has even launched her own company.

In fact, in 2013 Sharapova launched the candy company called Sugarpova and many have wondered the reason for this choice. Sugarpova currently has 12 different flavors of gummy candies and is one of the most successful brands in the world in this industry.

In 2008 Maria Sharapova won her third Slam title at the Australian Open making her number one in the world again. After this success everything changed with Maria who contracted a tear in the tendon of the shoulder, the second serious injury there and was forced to undergo surgery.
