Novak Djokovic puts on a rare loved-up display with his wife Jelena as they enjoy a family day at the beach with their children in Marbella

He is one of the world’s most successful tennis players with 17 Grand Slam titles to his name.

And Novak Djokovic put on a rare loved-up display with his wife Jelena as they enjoyed a family day out with their children in Marbella, Spain on Saturday.

The tennis star, 33, wrapped his arms around his other half, 34, as they shared a smooch on the beach where they were joined by their kids Stefan, six, and Tara, three.

Novak looked in good spirits for the day as he played with his children in the sand, at one point tumbling over as he gave his son a hug.

The sports star cut a casual figure for the outing, sporting a navy jacket along with bright blue tracksuit bottoms.

The Serbian athlete also wore a navy cap while he had a face mask tucked underneath his chin.

Jelena wrapped up in a dark grey padded jacket which she wore with light grey tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.

They became engaged in September 2013, before marrying in an idyllic ceremony on Sveti Stefan in Montenegro in 2014.

Four years ago the couple were rumoured to be experiencing difficulties in their marriage – when Jelena was pregnant with their daughter.

Speculation was ignited in 2017 when Novak admitted that ‘private issues’ had affected him since he won the French Open the year before.

Former Wimbledon champion John McEnroe also said on the BBC that Novak has ‘off-court issues with the family’.

The eight-time Australian Open champion previously said there will be no pressure on his two youngsters to follow his giant footsteps on the tennis court.

The Serbian world number two opened up about his hopes for son Stefan, five, and daughter Tara, two, moments after his fourth round straight sets win over Argentinian Diego Schwartzman.

A candid Novak said Jelena will ensure he doesn’t become a pushy tennis dad when talk during his post-match interview turned to family, despite their son already showing a keen interest in the sport.

‘Well, so far, it has been great in terms of tennis relationship between me and my son. He is willing to play with me,’ he told Channel Nine commentator Todd Woodbridge.

‘You know how it is, father-son, it is a bit different and obviously, he is exposed to tennis a lot when he travels with me but also on the television.’

‘He knows what is going on. He knows Roger (Federer), he knows Rafael (Nadal), a couple of the other guys.

‘His favourite shot is a forehand so far, I am trying to get him to hit a few backhand. He has been telling me that he is born with a backhand.’

Novak was hesitant in his response when asked what he’d be like as a coach to his children if they chose to follow in his footsteps.

‘I don’t know. I’m a father first. I can’t really put myself in the role of a coach,’ Novak said.

‘Look, I’m giving him (his son) all the space and all the time that he needs in the world.

‘I really want him and my daughter to really express honest desire to take the racket and the ball and just hit, go to the court or up against the wall.

‘I would be more than happy and thrilled to support them in their tennis careers and journeys but it is still very early to talk about it, you know, my wife says.’

“That is a fact according to the results, which will not be for a long time. Because he cultivates so much animosity towards Novak.

Nick Kyrgios tells Novak Djokovic’s father not to ‘push the blame’ onto Grigor Dimitrov

Published

on

The fallout from the Adria Tour continues with Nick Kyrgios hitting back at Novak Djokovic’s father for trying to “push the blame” onto Grigor Dimitrov following a string of positive coronavirus tests.

The controversial tournament, the brainchild of 17-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic, took place in Serbia and Croatia despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Players and fans did not wear facemasks during events and did not adhere to social distance rules with Djokovic insisting that they were following guidelines set out by the Serbia government.

The first big bombshell dropped on Sunday evening when world No 19 Dimitrov confirmed he returned a positive coronavirus test after returning home to Monaco, and Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki also tested positive, but the latter two were still in Croatia.

World No 1 Djokovic added his name to the list when he announced on Tuesday that both he and his wife Jelena tested positive for Covid-19 after they flew back to Serbia.

Opinion: Reckless Novak Djokovic paying the ultimate price for his vanity project

His father, Srdjan, was unimpressed by Dimitrov and blamed the Bulgarian.

“Why did it happen? Because that man probably came sick, who knows from where,” Djokovic Sr. said of Dimitrov on RTL Croatia TV.

“He didn’t test here, he tested somewhere else … I think that’s not fair.

“He inflicted damage to both Croatia and to us as a family in Serbia.

“Nobody is feeling well because of this situation.”

Kyrgios, who has been very outspoken about the Adria Tour, hit back at Srdjan in an Instagram Story as he wrote ” don’t push the blame”.
