“Terrible”: Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Others Empathize With Serena Williams Over Slippery Conditions at Wimbledon Championships 2021

On an extremely slippery center court at Wimbledon this year, things aren’t looking bright for top players who will be scheduled to play there in the coming days at SW19. Serena Williams, who was in pursuit of her 24th grand slam title, had a quick lead of 3-1 in the first set against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, before calling the trainer after suffering a mild injury to her ankle.

Even though she returned to the court after a few minutes, the American clearly looked in pain as she struggled to serve and fell down on-court, in tears. It was heart-breaking to see a champion, who gave so much to the sport, gave up on a match and retire mid-way.

The center court crowd took some time to grasp what just happened as most of them stayed in utter disbelief. Just like that, Serena Williams’ grass-court campaign came to an end in the most unfortunate manner.

Federer: “Oh my God, I can’t believe it.” 😥

Here is Federer’s version of the nature of Center court this year at SW19.

“The court feels a tad more slippery under the roof, I am moving more carefully, terrible that it’s back to back matches and it’s hit Serena as well”, the Swiss Maestro mentioned in the press.

The grounds persons at the Wimbledon Center court will have a question or two to answers owing to the dual debacles witnessed by fans in a single day. Even Novak Djokovic fell a couple of times during his first-round match against Jack Draper yesterday.

The groundspeople at Wimbledon have some serious questions to answer about that Centre Court….. so many players slipping and now we’ve seen two players get injured in back-to-back matches.

It’s really not good. 👎

The Wimbledon Championships has already seen a lot of setbacks in the first couple of days itself. With the crowd filling all the courts, it’s going to be a remarkable turnout for the remaining days at the most prestigious grand slam of the year.

Nick Kyrgios tells Novak Djokovic’s father not to ‘push the blame’ onto Grigor Dimitrov

The fallout from the Adria Tour continues with Nick Kyrgios hitting back at Novak Djokovic’s father for trying to “push the blame” onto Grigor Dimitrov following a string of positive coronavirus tests.

The controversial tournament, the brainchild of 17-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic, took place in Serbia and Croatia despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Players and fans did not wear facemasks during events and did not adhere to social distance rules with Djokovic insisting that they were following guidelines set out by the Serbia government.

The first big bombshell dropped on Sunday evening when world No 19 Dimitrov confirmed he returned a positive coronavirus test after returning home to Monaco, and Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki also tested positive, but the latter two were still in Croatia.

World No 1 Djokovic added his name to the list when he announced on Tuesday that both he and his wife Jelena tested positive for Covid-19 after they flew back to Serbia.

Opinion: Reckless Novak Djokovic paying the ultimate price for his vanity project

His father, Srdjan, was unimpressed by Dimitrov and blamed the Bulgarian.

“Why did it happen? Because that man probably came sick, who knows from where,” Djokovic Sr. said of Dimitrov on RTL Croatia TV.

“He didn’t test here, he tested somewhere else … I think that’s not fair.

“He inflicted damage to both Croatia and to us as a family in Serbia.

“Nobody is feeling well because of this situation.”

Kyrgios, who has been very outspoken about the Adria Tour, hit back at Srdjan in an Instagram Story as he wrote ” don’t push the blame”.
